Tango (Beginner & Intermediate)

Description:
Golden Era Tango: This style is prevalent in the milongas today in Buenos Aires. Typically danced to 2/4 rhythm and featuring small and relatively simple steps. Students will enjoy the music of such masters as Canaro, D’Arienzo, Fresedo, Calo and others. Students learn to master the tools and materials needed to improvise freely and creatively within the challenges of the music, the partner’s technical ability, and the often restricted space on a crowded dance floor.
Tango Salon: This style of tango utilizes 4/4 rhythm and an embrace which could be close or separate. This elegant dance features a more melodic, elastic approach to the expression of the music. The music of masters such as Pugliese, Tanturi, Sexteto Mayor, Color Tango and others is used. The geometrical shape and foundation of the movement is explored so that the student gains an ability to literally draw the forms of the dance on the floor with the feet, producing clean, expressive lines of movement and footwork. Gaining control of the body through this technique allows the individual personality of the student to shine through and for each student to develop their own unique style.

Vals Cruzado: Argentine Vals Cruzado features ¾ rhythm and selected tango steps. A lot of turns, a lot of traveling, a lot of pivots and multiple ways to use the beat of the music are emphasized. The dancers work on speed, agility, flow, good balance and how to manage a proper embrace when centrifugal force exerts itself upon the dancers.
Milonga: A playful dance that features rhythmical steps to a cheerful 2/4 rhythm. Milonga lisa (dancing on the down beat in simple tempo) is explored. Once comfortable with milonga lisa, he or she progresses to milonga traspie. Mastering the intricacies of these variations in a joyful and confident way is the goal of the class. This happy dance is taught in an atmosphere of fun.

Men and Women Tango Workout (All Levels)

Description:
Tango Workout: When a dancer has strong technique he or she can freely express themselves. This technique class teaches the student move freely and safely with an emphasis on balance, core strength, posture, control and alignment. The work is done without a partner and often with the assistance of a ballet barre and is designed to benefit dancers of all levels, from beginning to advanced. The goal is to train and discipline body and focus the mind to transform the dancer into an articulate instrument. The workout frees students of excess tension and expands movement possibilities. Alicia’s strong knowledge of the biomechanics of both movement and the body is utilized to show the dancer how to prevent and/or recover from injuries. It engages the creative process through the use of imagery and music while honing technique. Audio perception is also developed. Tango workout also addresses special needs for women, such as how to dance safely and gracefully in heels and walk backwards. The workout is a fun and energetic way to build strength, control, agility, flexibility and tone the entire body in preparation for dance partnership.
The motto of this class is, “Work Hard, Dance Right!”
